Interchange 360 Shares Intent to Develop a Separate and Independent Program in California
• California
Interchange 360 has provided CalRecycle with its intention to develop a separate and independent program from the Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) under the state’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for packaging. Based on our experience and knowledge, we anticipate that the PRO Plan in California will not include the collection and recycling of lubricant packaging.
CalRecycle, the state’s department overseeing the program, has released guidance for producers on next steps including registration options. The new guidance includes an online registration portal. Interchange 360 continues to seek clarity from the state on a pathway to register and report on behalf of its Participants. We will continue to provide updates as they develop throughout the month.
Monitoring AB-2245
AB-2245 provides another potential compliance pathway for the lubricants industry and this bill is currently making its way through the California legislature. If the bill is signed into law, it will move lubricant packaging out of SB 54 and create a separate EPR program.
