Maine ACP Public Consultation Period Concludes After Extensive Outreach

Maine

As Maine advances its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law for packaging , Interchange 360 is preparing to apply for an Alternative Collection Program (ACP). The intended product scope of the program includes the management of packaging for oil-based lubricants, grease, antifreeze, engine additives and other fluids typically used in transportation and mechanical applications. Residual fluid in these containers often makes them incompatible with common curbside collection programs. As a result, these materials may enter the disposal stream and be sent to landfills if a targeted collection and recycling solution is not available.

Before formally submitting its program plan to the stateF, Interchange 360 conducted a 45-day open consultation period from April 15 to May 30, 2026.

Outreach efforts included a dedicated webpage and questionnaire, a live virtual forum that was recorded and posted online, an email and social media campaign, and engagement at in-person events. State officials, producers, processors, transporters, community organizations, members of the public and other stakeholders all had the opportunity to participate in the consultation period and provide feedback on the draft plan.

While the official consultation period has now closed, interested parties are still encouraged to submit comments or questions via email to MemberServices@interchange360.com. Feedback will still be considered, as time allows, before formal submission of the ACP to the state.
